GFS’ General Purpose Paint Booths are high-quality, cost-effective solutions for industrial manufacturers and businesses that need to paint equipment, utility vehicles and trucks that are too large for traditional automotive refinish booths but too small for our Large Equipment Paint Booth line.

Our validated General Purpose Booths are fully ETL-listed and meet or exceed government standards. They feature excellent lighting, airflow and filtration for achieving high-quality paint finishes. Precision engineered and manufactured with durable materials, GFS General Purpose Paint Booths are designed to last many years of use.


Heavy Duty Materials & Construction

General Purpose Booths are constructed from high-quality, 18-gauge, G90 galvanized sheet steel. Quality components including plate steel door hinges, friction-style latches and precision-punched vertical panels ensure longevity, safety and excellent structural integrity. Once the booths arrive at your site, they are constructed with sturdy nut-and-bolt construction by trained technicians.

Fully ETL-Listed

General Purpose Paint Booths are fully ETL-listed, ensuring that the entire booth complies with applicable safety codes. ETL listing makes it easy to obtain necessary permits and stamped drawings, ensuring worry-free planning and installation.

Fans & Motors

High-powered fans and motors supply optimal airflow through the paint booth, creating a cleaner environment for a better paint job. Each General Purpose Paint Booth includes a non-sparking, tube axial exhaust fan(s) with belt guards and duct connector ring, along with a UL and CSA recognized three-phase, TEFC, tri-voltage motor.

Safety Equipment

To ensure the safety of painters and equipment, a manometer and air solenoid valve are included with all General Purpose Booths to maintain an optimal working environment inside the booth. Manometers monitor overspray build-up on exhaust filters, while air solenoid valves prevent spraying in the booth when fans are off or a door is open. Limit switches come standard on pressurized booths to safely shut down spray guns when the booth doors are open.

Selecting a Booth Size

Use the following guidelines to help you determine the appropriate size booth for your needs:
  • Interior Width: Add 5 ft. to the width of the largest item that will be put in the booth (include fixture or pallet size)
  • Interior Height: Add 2 ft. to the height of the largest item that will be put in the booth (include fixture or pallet size)
  • Interior Depth: If the booth does not have doors, add 3 ft. to the depth of the largest item that will be put in the booth to ensure clearance at the rear of the booth. If the booth has doors, add 5 ft. to the depth.

Additional Sizing Considerations

Global Finishing Solutions' Sales and Design departments ensure that the booth and shop are configured to best accommodate the customer's painting and finishing needs. The following items must be considered when determining booth size, location and configuration:
  • Square Footage: Ceiling heights and floor space must be sufficient to accommodate the booth's exterior dimensions as well as the dimensions of other product offerings, such as Paint Mix Rooms, Dust Collection or Hazardous Material Storage Buildings.
  • Shop Height: GFS recommends that you allow 3 ft. between the top of the booth and the shop ceiling to allow space for installation and an air make-up unit or fan, if they are positioned at the top of the booth.
  • Note: Outdoor Large Equipment Booths are available for locations with limited shop space.
  • Maneuvering Vehicles and Equipment: Depending on the floor layout and sizes of the products being painted or finished, it may be difficult to move product into and out of the booth. Make sure there is sufficient space to move around corners and approach the product doors head on.
  • Bridge Intake Chambers with Solid Doors: The booth opening dimensions are decreased by 2 ft. in height and 4 ft. in width on a booth with a bridge intake chamber. Take this into account when determining booth and door size.
  • Filtered Doors for Large Open Face Booths: Account for a decrease in the size of the booth opening of 4 ft. in width when using filtered doors on a booth.
  • Door Swing Range: Allow for sufficient space for filtered or solid swing doors to open fully to allow product entrance. If space at the front or rear of the both is limited for product entry and/or exit, bi-fold, tri-fold, sliding and roll-up doors are available as options on GFS Large Equipment and General Purpose Booths.
  • Conveyor: Width must be sufficient to allow finishers to complete their operation within the allotted time. Spraying should not be completed less than 2 ft. from the conveyor opening.



The most cost-effective airflow style, crossdraft General Purpose Booths offer reliable performance at an affordable price point. Since there is no pit to dig, crossdraft booths are also easier to integrate into existing facilities. Air flows horizontally through a crossdraft booth, starting at the front of the booth and flowing over the product or part and into a filter bank in the booth rear.

Side Downdraft

Side downdraft booths are an economical solution for shops that aren’t able to install a pit. Air comes into the booth through a full-length, filtered ceiling plenum, and flows downward over the product. When air reaches the floor, it is pulled into floor-level filtered exhaust plenums on both sides of the booth.


The semi-downdraft booth is a hybrid combining features of both crossdraft and downdraft booths. Air is introduced to the booth through the ceiling in the first 25-30 percent of the booth. It’s then pulled across the working chamber, over the vehicle and into the filtered exhaust chamber at the booth rear.


Generally accepted as the best airflow style, downdraft booths do an excellent job of controlling overspray and contamination. Air enters the booth through a full-length, filtered ceiling plenum. From there, air flows vertically over the product and into the filtered exhaust pit in the floor.


Superior Lighting

Designed for optimal brightness and color matching, General Purpose Booths feature angled ceiling lighting that is strategically placed for precise lighting and minimal shadows. Our light fixtures are manufactured in our own factory for consistent quality and are ETL or ETL-C listed to remain in compliance with industry standards. Four-tube fluorescent fixtures with T8 ballasts come standard on all General Purpose Booths. However, many light and fixture options are available to customize booth lighting to meet your needs including LED bulbs for added brightness and energy efficiency, six-tube fluorescent fixtures and light reflectors for increased luminosity.

Doors & Windows

GFS doors and windows are designed with durability and flexibility in mind. Each pre-engineered General Purpose Booth includes a swing-type product door and at least one personnel door. Depending on the layout of your booth and paint line, custom engineered doors and configurations – such as roll-up, bi-fold or drive-thru – may be right for you.

Observation windows come standard in all personnel doors, but can also be added to booth walls and certain product doors to monitor robotics, painters or booth modes.


Control Panels

All GFS control panels are UL-listed and make it easy to manage your booth’s safety features and environment. Two control panels are available with the General Purpose Paint Booth line from GFS. For non-pressurized booths, the electromechanical control panel is a cost-effective solution used to control booth exhaust, safety interlocks and lights. The Velocity control panel comes standard with pressurized booths and features deluxe controls, complete with a touch-screen interface. Velocity supports spray, flash and cure modes along with many programmable alarms, an auto-balancing system (on pressurized booths) and automatic safety checks.


GFS guarantees that our products meet or exceed all of the applicable codes related to the equipment. Our engineers regularly follow and contribute to the advancement of codes and standards that affect the industries that we work in. One of our engineers currently serves on the NFPA Technical Committee on Finishing Processes, a key standard in the finishing industry.


GFS’ direct gas fired air make-up units provide an economical source of replacement air. AMUs maintain a constant air temperature regardless of the air temperature outside of your building, allowing for balanced building pressure and proper comfort levels, without drafts. By continually replacing contaminated booth air with fresh, heated outdoor air, staleness and added impurities in the painting process are easily avoided.
