As air is exhausted from process equipment (such as paint booths, ovens, etc.), that heat is lost as well. Heat recovery systems are the answer to reclaiming some of this heat that escapes with the exhausted air, in turn providing measurable energy savings. GFS has installed many of these systems for businesses and government entities. On average, energy recovery systems will provide 40-50% energy savings for air make-up systems serving the booth for both heating and cooling.
* Dependent upon climate, hours of operation per day and other factors
A state-of-the-art, air-to-air exchanger is combined with a high efficiency direct fired air make-up heater to capture some of this heat as air exits the building. This recovered heat then warms up the intake air that is brought into the building. Coupling a direct fired air make-up unit with an efficient and easily maintained heat exchanger provides the ideal industrial heating and ventilating system.
Air-to-Air Heat Exchanger
A flat plate air-to-air heat exchanger captures heat from the exhausted air and used that heat to heat up the incoming fresh air into the booth or oven. This heat exchanger is 50-60% effective, dependent upon face velocity and plate spacing.
The direct-fired burner offers 100% thermal efficiency, as opposed to 80% (nominal) efficiency for an indirect fired air make-up heater. The turndown ratio for direct-fired units is much greater than common indirect fired units. This means better control of discharge air temperatures and better use of fuel energy to heat the air as it moves across the burner.
Variable Speed Unit w/ Economizer
The Economizer feature will slow the booth and air make-up unit to half speed when the painter isn’t spraying in the booth. Reducing the booth to half speed with reduce the amount of heat being exhausted and reduce electrical usage.
